The National Gallery of Slovenia is commemorating it’s 100th anniversary with an exhibitions of artwork by one of the most famous Slovenian artists of all time, Ivana Kobilca 1861-1926. She spent most of her adult life studying and working in European cities like Vienna, Munich, Paris, Sarajevo and Berlin. She returned to Ljubljana when the First World War broke out.
In the Gallery’s permanent collection I came across the work of artist Gojmir Anton Kos (1896-1970) the great Slovene painter of colour and tone. A retrospective exhibition of his work was held in the gallery in 1992. I would have liked to have seen that, I did the next best thing and bought the catalogue, great work. A visit to The National Gallery of Slovenia is just one of the enjoyable things a person can do while in Ljubljana the capital of Slovenia.
